Infant Car Seat Cover

I have seen several different names for these, car seat cover, infant seat canopy, infant carrier cover, the list goes on and on. I call mine an infant car seat cover. The name really doesn't matter. It is a wonderful, wonderful cover. This being baby number 4 I have tried every kind of blanket size, weight, over handle, under handle configuration to try to keep a baby covered in its car seat. I have found the perfect solution. This cover has fantastic little straps that hold the blanket onto the car seat so it doesn't sag onto baby's face or blow away in the wind. It is double layered so it helps keep baby warm too. I also love the fact that every stranger that walks up does not have access to touch my sweet baby's hands and sneeze on his face, I can keep him safely tucked away. I'm not sure that these really look like rose petals, but that's what I think of when I see them. They are perfect worn straight in the hair or on a headband. The clip is covered in felt, but the actual flower is made of fabric with a simple pearl bead in the center.

I have attempted some felt "bows" in the past, but I tried a new method and they are adorable!! They can be made in three different sizes and in a wide variety of colors. Here are some pics of purple, blue and pink felt bows in the large and medium sizes.

I love, love, love my felt clips, but have found it difficult to dress them up for fancier occasions. The ruffled circles with jeweled centers are ok for some situations, but I thought I would try out new fabric and see what happened. These are still on a snap clip that is covered in felt, but the flower on top is made out of smoother fabric, not felt.

By request I made some "bows." I add the quotation marks because I can't really call them bows as they are not ribbon or tied in any way, they are simply felt formed to look like adorable baby bows. And I think they turned out pretty cute! These are on tiny baby clips and look so cute on little baby girls. Since they have the felt backing on one side they also hold in fine baby hair really well.

I can't believe school has started again already! It feels like summer started only a couple weeks ago. I will miss my big girl during the day and can't believe my little man is already starting Kindergarten. In preparation for the starting school year I've been working on school spirit clips :) So here are a couple for the local schools around. While it feels nothing like fall outside, I've already started thinking about what clips would work for fall. To be honest, this has been kind of hard. I seem to see fall decoration as either Halloween or Thanksgiving, which is great for October and November, but what about August and September? So after some helpful advice and trial runs, I have found a few ideas that seem to scream fall. I am not a huge football fan, but my husband is a football fanatic. So, footballs and megaphones it is.

I have some new designs. I was really excited. I think they are adorable. So, I brought them out to show baby girl (she usually likes everything) and she had some strong opinions, most of which weren't so nice. She did grab one and won't let it go (she's sleeping with it). I asked her to take some pictures with them, she declined most! And when I was able to distract and sneak one in, she was smart and pulled it out. Oh well, I guess you can't please everyone! Here are some pics, I put them all on large size snap clips, those hold really well in baby girl's hair and stand out enough in my big girl's hair. I won't say which ones she liked/disliked...wouldn't want to influence anyone's opinions!

Buttonhole Headbands

It's early, early in the morning (probably not that early to most, but working nights anything before 7:30am is too early) I'm getting big sister ready for school, and the search begins. Of course we have a million hair clips, and bows and rubber bands and every other thing you can use to 'fix' a little girl's hair. But, of course, we do not have THE head band with the perfect color of flower or the color clip that would actual match the super cute outfit. And, how do you solve the problem of "I don't want that clip, I want this one, but I don't want to wear my hear up, I want a head band!" I can now (and quite proudly I must admit) solve that problem!!! It is the buttonhole head band. I cover my head bands with felt, which adds just the slightest bit of cushion on the ends that tend to poke so inconveniently at the sides of the head behind the ears. Since the head bands are already covered in felt, it's so easy to just stitch a buttonhole into the side that allows interchanging of clips, flowers, or any bow that is on an alligator or snap type clip! So, now we just have to be able to keep track of the headbands, bows, clips, etc. (I really thought that having a specific drawer in the downstairs bathroom where the hair is fixed and several clip holders full of clips and bows in same bathroom would solve the problem...but that's a completely different problem not likely to ever be fixed in my house :)) Here are some pics (and there are quite a few)!

It has been a very busy couple of months. I am so lucky to have some crafty friends selling the most adorable shirts, we decided to check out the craft show/fair scene together. My clips and their shirts compliment each other so perfectly. Here are some pics from the local fairs we have done the past two months.

A friend asked me to make a mermaid for her daughter, happy for the challenge I tried and she turned out adorable! Of course I didn't actually take a picture of the mermaid headband...but I will with the next one. But she gave me quite the inspiration. The original mermaid was in a mix of blues, which I must say, I love a little girl in blue. But why not try her in pink, or purple, so many color options. Plus, would she not make the cutest clip holder?!?! I think the answer is obvious.

So from there we have the flower...a stem is perfect for holding clips.

And then we have a bird, whose legs hold the clips. I love this little bird!!

After this very long, very cold winter it is finally looking like spring. The sun is out, the birds are chirping and that makes me want to make more clips!!!! There are some for easter, who can resist a sweet bunny or a chick in an egg. And butterflies and teapots and guitars...although teapots and guitars aren't really exclusively spring. There is much more to come, but I couldn't wait to post pics of the latest!

Snail

One of the pairs of pants that baby girl agrees to wear regularly has a crazy print, upon closer inspection...that crazy print has great clip ideas! This snail being one of them. She's pink and purple and on a large clip. Of course, since the snail's debut, baby girl has refused to wear those pants! So, although she has a perfectly matching pair of pants to be worn with, she is of course worn with completely non-matching colors! As you can tell with the theme of most posts, baby girl and I do not agree on what matches, but she's cute so she usually gets her way (with clip and clothes choices that is).

I love this clip!!! So does baby girl! The gum ball machine is made with primary colors and stitched in black. So, like the whale as mentioned in a previous post, this gum ball machine might be making a reappearance in a variety of colors due to the fact that baby girl wants to wear the "gum ball" with everything, matching is not high on her priority list! This one is on a medium size clip.

Although this one is a poinsettia, and I realize the Christmas season has passed, it offers endless possibilities. I have plans for many different color and shape combinations. It is on a large size clip and unlike the other clips that lay flat, these petals are raised. Baby girl was very excited about her new flower and it got a lot of wear during the holiday season.

So the holiday craziness is over which leaves time to work on clips!!! I have some fun new ideas I can't wait to share in the next few weeks! But, to make things a little clearer I'm adding some details.

Each clip is on a snap clip (the kind that lays flat when snapped shut). I have three different sizes of clips: small, medium and large (I think this has been previously stated, but I'm including pictures this time).

The smallest clips are perfect for babies, and there are only a few clips that are made on this size (although I'm always willing to try to make any clip in any size).

The medium clip is the most common size, it works well in little girl hair or bigger girls with a rubber band.

I like the large size clip the best. It looks great in both my 2 year old and 6 year old's hair.

The reason these clips work so well in any hair texture is how they are assembled. There is actually a layer of felt on one side and the piece of the actual alligator clip on the other, it helps to hold the clip to the hair with less slipping.

I couldn't have holiday clips without including Santa!! He is a BIG hit with baby girl. She has worn him nonstop since I asked her to try it on for a picture. I also asked her to model the santa hat, and she refused, multiple times. Apparently the hat is not a hit, but the full face is. Big girl liked both. So here are pictures of both. Both are on large size clips, but as you can see in baby girl's hair, it isn't too big.

Baby girl turned two and what is better than a cupcake clip for her hair? It was perfect and matched her birthday dress! Since I have a sweet tooth, I was able to come up with many 'flavor' varieties for the cupcake. And they come in sizes for babies and big girls. The stand alone cupcakes are the bigger ones and the cupcakes with the background are on the smallest clips.

Animals

I seem to have a lot of animals. They are just so fun to make and cute in their hair! We've already discussed the whale obsession and owl connection. So there is a dog, actually several dogs. Scotty dog comes in hot pink with black and red with black. Inspired by baby girls cutest hand-me-down "puppy doggies" overalls. He is on a medium size clip and works perfectly in both test subject's hair. The other dog, as he is much bigger required a large size clip.

Another random favorite of the baby girl is the frog prince. There is no rhyme or reason to the preference of a two year old as evidenced by her fondness for particular clips. Although, as with most things, a toddler's likes and dislikes change day to day or even hour to hour. My toddler is not quite so fickle when it comes to her clips.

The panda bear is the newest addition to the clip collection. Inspired by a popular television show I could not resist! The girls think he is great.

Then there are the birds, a friend requested these.

The turtle is a favorite of mine, and with a much more subtle color scheme than the rest.

And that leaves the penguin and the ladybug. I told you I had a lot of animals!

Seasonally appropriate

What collection would be complete without adding holiday inspired clips? I started with the pumpkin, it works for halloween and thanksgiving.

And what thanksgiving feast would be complete without a turkey?

Then moving on to christmas, I added a couple types of trees, in various sizes. Then my favorite, the reindeer. The original is huge, on the biggest size clip I have. But, by request he is now available in three sizes from baby to big girl. And there is the snowman (or i guess more appropriately snow woman she looks pretty feminine to me), since both my girls have snowman attire featuring both baby pink and baby blue, she comes in two colors! And she can work all through winter. And of course a gingerbread man, his buttons come in either red or pink. I can't wait for December so they can wear them!

Fruit

The green apple is one of my favorites, and I can usually convince the little one to wear it. Both my girls have many outfits this season featuring the yummy fruit. But, if there is a green apple then there must be a red apple of course. And while we're on the fruit theme a strawberry is perfect right? What summer wardrobe doesn't include a strawberry theme! Luckily my oldest guinea pig (6 year old) is more than happy to wear all of the clips to school and she usually can be convinced of a color appropriate clip!

I created this clip before going back to my college homecoming. As a Chi Omega the owl will always have a special place in my heart, and what other colors could make it complete? Although I realized that not everyone would have quite the same feelings about those most perfect colors...so I made it in some other, more little girl friendly, colors. As I am always noticing owls, I have it in two different designs, who doesn't need multiple owl type clips? And lucky for me the owl is a hit with my test subjects (my daughters). Although they mostly prefer to pair the pink owl with red and yellow clothing and the red and yellow owl with pink clothing! Sometimes it's not worth the fight in the morning to make sure a 2 year old's hair clip matches her clothes!

The Whale

This is my baby girl's favorite clip. I have no idea what the attraction to the whale is, but she loves them, so much so that I was required to make them in several different colors so that the clip would somewhat match the outfit she has on.

How it all began

I have two daughters. I love putting girly hair bows in their hair, but sometimes bows just seem so big!! I took baby girl to the park one day and saw a baby with a flat rectangular clip in her hair. I loved it. But, being the super smart Mommy I am didn't think to ask where she might have gotten the clip. So, instead I tried to recreate it. I tried several different methods including fabric and the silver clippies that stick up on one side, trying to harden the fabric so it would stay just right, none of these attempts were successful. Then I found some felt clips on a kids clothing website, I can't remember which one and it all clicked!! Felt was the answer it is sturdy enough to keep it's shape and comes in so many different colors it would be so easy to make so many different things. Apparently I am not the only person to discover the wonder of felt as there are many websites out there selling felt hair clips, and here are mine!
The picture quality is not great, but the clip quality is. I hand stitch all the clips. There are three different clip sizes, most being medium sized. My two year old and six year old both wear those, the bigger clips work great for both as well. The smallest clip works for the two year old, but is more geared for a smaller girl. Interested?
